SAN FRANCISCO, California: Uber Technologies Inc will open its offices in late October, postponing from the earlier announced September 13, and has asked all employees in the United States to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before returning, a spokesperson said on Thursday.

Following the highly infectious Delta COVID-19 variant driving a resurgence in cases, major tech companies, including Twitter, Google and Facebook had also asked all U.S. employees to get vaccinated before returning to corporate offices.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has stated that federal law does not prevent employers from insisting employees receive vaccinations before returning to offices.

With the requirement for inoculations, Big Tech companies joins the federal government in its push to enforce Coronavirus-related workplace restrictions.

The Delta variant, which emerged in India, has quickly spread globally and now accounts for more than 80 percent of all U.S. coronavirus cases.
